What Do You Need To Pass Your Driving Test?

The Driving Test is conducted by a Driving Standards Agency (DSA) examiner.

The test lasts about 35 to 40 minutes. Before the driving part of the test starts you will be required to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 yards and answer two "Show & Tell" questions. If you are unable to read the number plate the test cannot proceed. The Show & Tell questions are all safety related with regard to things like tyres, lights, and vehicle checks etc.

I provide all pupils with a list of questions and answers and work through them with you.

During the driving part of the test you will be assessed on your correct use of all the car controls and your driving technique and skills. You will be required to complete two manoeuvres and may be asked to perform an emergency stop. All faults observed by the examiner are classified as "Driving Faults"; "Serious Faults" or "Dangerous Faults".

A candidate will pass if they have 15 or less driving faults and no serious or dangerous faults.

At the end of the test the examiner will tell you if you have passed or failed.

I always carry out at least 1 mock test several lessons before the real test.
